Austro-Hungarian Empire

The Austro-Hungarian Empire was born  out of the abolition  of the Holy Roman Empire by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1806. Austro-Hungary was arguably Napoleon's main adversary having fought battles with him from Saorgio (Italy) in 1794 to Arcis-Sur-Aube (France) in 1814.

When Napoleon invaded Russia in 1812 the Grande Armee included (reluctantly) Austrian and Prussian contingents as they had both been defeated by France and not in a position to throw off French hegemony at that time.

Hence my interest in the Austrian army of the period, colourful uniforms, varied units and great cavalry, so here are some pics of my units.,

Hungarian (blue trousers) grenadiers advancing past artillery and Jager strong point

Hessen-Kassel

I came across this interesting article regarding the Kurfurst (elector) of Hessen-Kassel. How accurate this is I am unable to ascertain but this article provided uniform detail so I just had to paint some figures.

The figures in the photos are Hinchliffe 25mm Austrians painted as Hessen-Kassel as per the scanned article above.
